Background

Dominion proposes to construct 500kV and 230 kV high-voltage transmission lines and towers as high as 135' -150' along Route 7 extending from Belmont Ridge Parkway to Loudoun County Parkway and beyond. For perspective, the Brooklyn Brige is 127' tall; the Statue of Liberty is 151' tall. Along with these transmission lines, Dominionis is also proposing to construct new xxx acre substations to serve data centers proposed - but not yet constructed- on the south side of Rt 7 and on both sides of Belmont Ridge Road. Dominion calls this proposed power infrastructure “Aspen to Golden.”

Why is this happening? What can be done? The Economic Development Office of Loudoun County describes Loudoun as the “Data Center Capital of the World,” and estimates that approximately 70% of the world’s internet traffic transits our County. We are concerned that to service data centers, Dominion intends to build out the east-west power corridor along Route 7 in the way it has already done along River Creek Parkway, Cross Trail Blvd, Boland Park, and further southwards. We believe the that Loudoun's central role as an international hub of internet traffic, as well as data managment should be met with equally sophisticated utilities- engineering technology, (already in use world wide) to provide power to its customers in a more community and environmentally responsbile manner. The Lansdowne Task Force is engaged with experts in the energy industry to determine what realistic, alternative methods Dominion can implement so its footprint on Route 7 limited greenspace can be minimized.

What is the role of the Lansdowne Conservancy in this effort? The Conservancy is a planned community comprised of Lansdowne on the Potomac, Lansdowne Village Greens, Lansdowne Woods along with other residential associations. Lansdowne Conservancy also consists of Lansdowne Resort, Lansdowne Village Greens Commercial Association, the National Conference Center, the Vistas, and Inova Loudoun Hospital and additional medical, corporate and educational entities. Lansdowne Conservancy's General Counsel has led the effort to form a Task Force to safeguard its residentshei
